Deborah fletcher mello biography definition

Deborah Fletcher Mello (born 1962, Stamford) is an American author of contemporary multicultural romance, romantic suspense, and literary fiction. She is the recipient of numerous awards and has received much praise for the complexity of her storytelling.

Early Life

Mello was born Deborah Denice Fletcher in Stamford, Connecticut to Walter Louis Fletcher, a self-employed, licensed HVAC/R Service Technician and Corrine Addison Fletcher, a Pitney Bowes line manager. As a child she was an avid reader and her love of books was born from regular trips to the public library. Her early writing career began in middle school when she would scribble poetry in the margins of her science lab book. An astute science teacher encouraged the practice, validating Mello's talent.

Career

Mello was initially published by BET Books and her first novel, TAKE ME TO HEART, earned her a 2004 Romance Slam Jam nomination for Best New Author. In 2008, Mello won the Romantic Times Reviewers Choice award for Best Series Romance for her ninth novel, TAME A WILD STALLION. Her publication, CRAVING TEMPTATION, was named one of Publisher's Weekly Best Books for 2014 and was also nominated for a 2015 Emma Award for Book of the Year. As well, her novel PLAYING FOR KEEPS, was a Library Journal Best of 2015 and won the Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice award for Best Multicultural Romance. Mello was named the 2016 Romance Slam Jam Author of the Year, and in 2017 received the Reading Warriors Donna Hill Breakout Author Award. Throughout her writing career, Mello has written for several publishers, including BET Books, Harlequin Kimani, Kensington Books, MaGregor Press, Siri-Austin Entertainment and Harlequin Suspense.
