| Rap musician Date of Birth: 17.10.1972 Country: USA |
Marshall Bruce Mathers III, known as Eminem, was born on October 17, 1972, in St. Joseph, Missouri. According to the musician, he has English, Scottish, Swiss, German, and Polish roots. When Marshall was very young, his father left the family and never saw his son again. In search of a better life, Marshall and his mother moved from state to state until they settled in the Eastside of Detroit in 1984. Life in Detroit became a real challenge for Marshall. They lived in a crime-ridden neighborhood populated by African Americans who weren't very fond of white people. The rapper faced problems not only on the streets but also at school. He talked about his worst school enemy, D'Angelo Bailey, in one of his first songs, "Brain Damage." The African American teenager often beat him up, so going to school, he never knew if he would return alive. Marshall's only friend, who replaced his father, was his uncle Ronnie, his mother's brother. He loved hip-hop and even rapped himself. It was Ronnie who introduced Eminem to rap culture by giving him Ice-T's album "Reckless" in 1987. The album impressed him so much that he decided to pursue music and become a rapper. However, it wasn't easy. Marshall started participating in rap battles, competitions held by rappers to determine the best performer. He was one of the few white teenagers, so he was constantly mocked. But Eminem didn't give up. Gradually, people started to take notice of the young rapper, he made friends, and at the age of 15, he had a girlfriend named Kimberly Scott. His passion for music led to his expulsion from school. For several years, he worked as a mover while continuing to write songs and participate in rap battles. Eminem's life changed dramatically after the death of his uncle Ronnie. He started using drugs and nearly died of an overdose. Only caring for Kimberly and their little daughter, Hailie, who was born in 1995, helped him overcome his depression. Soon, the aspiring rapper achieved his first success. In 1995, Eminem made his debut as part of the group "Soul Intent" and released his first solo album, "Infinite," in 1996. However, his fame did not go beyond Detroit, and the album got lost among numerous hip-hop records. In 1997, Eminem recorded the demo album "The Slim Shady EP," where he spoke from the perspective of Slim Shady, the dark side of his soul. While Eminem participated in a battle in Los Angeles, his manager Paul Rosenberg sent the demo album to various music companies. One ended up in the hands of representatives from "Interscope Records." According to legend, one of the top hip-hop producers, Dr. Dre, discovered it there. When he listened to the album, he ordered an immediate search for the young rapper. Eminem won the battle in Los Angeles, and Dr. Dre offered to collaborate. In 1999, Eminem released the full-length album "The Slim Shady EP," which had a bombshell effect. The content of the songs was so shocking that American society was divided into two camps. Some condemned the rapper for the excessive profanity and vulgarity, while others praised him for his boldness and depiction of real life. "The Slim Shady EP" became triple platinum and made Eminem famous. The musician received two Grammy Awards, but most importantly, he gained recognition among African American rappers. However, fame also had its downside. Eminem's mother sued him for $10 million for the alleged emotional damage caused by his offensive songs. The truth was on the rapper's side, and he won the lawsuit. Unlike his career, Eminem's family life was not as smooth. In 2001, he divorced Kimberly, but they remarried five years later. However, their second marriage did not last long. After their separation in 2006, Eminem and Kim agreed to have joint custody of their daughter. After some time, the rapper adopted two more girls, Alaina and Whitney. In 2017, fans of the star welcomed the release of his official biography, "Eminem: On the Edge of Possibility," written by Elizabeth Buta, also known for her biographies of Monica Bellucci, Catherine Deneuve, and Jerome Salinger. In the same year, the artist surprised his fans with a change in appearance, growing a beard. He appeared at the premiere of the documentary film "The Defiant Ones" in this new look. The scale of this seemingly insignificant change was so significant that it overshadowed the main event of the evening. Fans called Eminem's beard the biggest event since Michael Jackson changed his skin color. Later, the musician decided to return to his usual appearance. According to Russian fans, Eminem resembles the singer Stas Mikhailov, or rather, the Russian singer started to resemble him after changing his image. The resemblance has become the cause of numerous jokes and memes on the Internet. Eminem's second album, "The Marshall Mathers LP" (2000), sparked even more controversy and gained a notorious reputation. Organizations supporting sexual minorities criticized the musician, particularly for the song "Stan," which, in their opinion, insulted people with non-traditional sexual orientation. Eminem stated that he doesn't express his feelings but tries to show the world he grew up in. To prove his words, he performed the song "Stan" in a duet with Elton John. They became best friends, which once again proved that the rapper never harbored any animosity towards the LGBTQ+ community. The peak of Eminem's popularity came in 2002 with the release of one of his best albums, "The Eminem Show." The album reached diamond status and sold 20 million copies worldwide. In the same year, the autobiographical film "8 Mile" was released, in which Eminem played the rapper Jimmy Smith. He won an Oscar for the song "Lose Yourself," becoming the first rapper to receive this award. The film was a huge success and brought Eminem worldwide fame. Later, rumors started circulating due to his seven-year hiatus, suggesting that the rapper had quit his career. But in 2009, Eminem delighted fans with two solo albums, "Relapse" and "Refill." In 2010, he released the album "Recovery," which included the collaboration with Rihanna, "Love The Way You Lie," which reached over 1.3 billion views on YouTube. In 2013, Eminem worked on his eighth album, "The Marshall Mathers LP 2," which he presented in November. Throughout this time, the musician successfully performed at concerts. In the third single from his eighth studio album, "Rap God," Eminem delivers 1,560 words in 6 minutes and 4 seconds. Eminem is the first person in history to receive over 78 million likes on Facebook. He founded the independent non-profit radio station Shade 45, which broadcasts hip-hop music. It began its operation in 2004 and, in addition to Eminem's own recordings, the uncensored radio station allows subscribers to listen to contemporary rap music, including international artists. In the spring of 2017, Eminem's fans were excited by rumors of the imminent release of his ninth album. Fans noticed a joint photo on Instagram of Shady Records CEO Paul Rosenberg with the rapper, where they spotted the inscription "April 9th" on Eminem's hand. Fans assumed that this was a hint at the release date of the new album. In 2018, the "king of hip-hop" participated in the creation of American female rapper Nicki Minaj's album. While recording a verse for the musical composition "Majesty," Eminem broke his own record for words per minute. In 12 seconds, the rapper delivered 123 syllables, averaging 10.3 syllables per second. Currently, this achievement has not been officially recognized by the Guinness World Records but is considered the highest among existing records. In 2020, at the Oscars ceremony, a funny situation occurred: Salma Hayek accidentally poured water on Eminem from head to toe when they bumped into each other backstage. In the recording, the scene looks like a joke between old friends, but in reality, the stars met for the first time. Hayek later explained that it was a coincidence, and she still feels terribly embarrassed. Salma is a fan of Eminem's work and had long dreamed of meeting him, but she never expected their first encounter to happen like that. In reality, Eminem has always sought respect rather than fame. However, as he believes, fame comes with respect, so he never turned it down. According to the rapper, respect cannot feed his daughter alone. And he is absolutely right. Eminem has a sober perspective on many things in life because he matured too early. At the age of 15, he faced a choice: either prove that he meant something or perish. Eminem chose the first path, and by following it, one can confidently say that he earned the title of the "King of Hip-Hop." To this day, Eminem has sold over 100 million records worldwide, a feat achieved by only a few in the history of 20th-century music. His music has influenced many artists and has become the standard of the genre. He continues to write songs because he believes that he hasn't said everything to the world yet.
